We study reversible intermolecular interactions in water, with a special focus on optical spectroscopy. Lately we have been fascinated by the behavior of large hyperbranched polyelectrolytes in water solution. We construct chemical systems with emergent functions, such as molecular-level chemical sensors, drug delivery vehicles, and nanoscopic reaction vessels.
